The weather is appalling, and it wouldn’t surprise me if you’ve cancelled some golf. Maybe you've time on your hands over the Christmas period. So if you’ve got a few minutes to spare, check Update My Details. Update My Details is the first item you see when you log in.

Update your account

Maybe you’ve a new telephone number, a new email address or you’ve changed your address. It's a good idea to check that the record is correct. It ensures that the office has your correct details. It’s used to populate the Directory of Members, over which you have total control. It also communicates with the BRS Timesheets. When your name goes on a timesheet, you’ll automatically get a confirmation by email.

The club has a new SMS system, so check that your mobile number is correct.

You can add a photograph to your profile. If you want to add a photo, and don't have a suitable head and shoulder shot, let me know. I can't guarantee it, but I may be able to extract one for you from the Photo Archive.

Directory of Members

The Directory of Members is in the Members' Area. Only members have access. The public do not have access.

The default setting is "opt in" so if you are happy for your details to appear you need do nothing.

If you do not want your name to appear in the Directory of Members, you can "opt out" by changing the switch to "opt out".

Decide what you want fellow members to see

If you "opt in" you can choose the information that appears in the Directory of Members. If the checkbox in the ‘Publish?’ column is not ticked then that piece of information will not be visible to other members. For example, if “Publish” is not ticked beside your address, then your address will not show up in the directory.

The diagram shows you my account. My name, email address and mobile is published in the directory. My land line is not published, because the Publish check box beside the number is not ticked.

There are errors

There are a good number of errors in the directory. These are caused where "Publish" is ticked beside an email address and or telephone numbers, but there is no tick (Publish) beside the member's name. This results in an email address and/or telephone number popping up in the Directory of Members, but no name is attached. Nobody knows who the email address or telephone numbers belong to. So please check your account.

If you look at the Directory of Members you'll see many of these errors.

Security - A check to ensure it is you who made the changes

If you make a change, you must confirm the change by entering your password. This is to check that it's you who made the change.  Nobody has access to your password.

It's a good idea to check that everything is OK

When you’re finished, check your listing in the Directory of Members to ensure everything is OK. If nothing shows up, or you're not happy, or there are blanks, go back to Update My Details and check the “opt in” and "Publish" selections.

If you update your account the changes you make will automatically update the record in the office.

Timesheets

Suppose you decide to 'opt out' in any area, you will continue to get email confirmation of bookings. It will not interfere with the timesheets as it only affects the Directory of Members.

An example of a listing in the Directory of Members

This is my entry in the Directory of Members. It only contains my name, a photo, email address and a mobile number. I've chosen not to display my address or land line.

If you need help, why not talk to a fellow member?

Alternatively, feel free to give me a call, or send a note via Feedback.
