Date posted: 8th September 2023
Dear Members,
Further to the recent update on Course Works we are now writing to provide members with an update on the temporary arrangements for Men’s and Ladies golfing activities from the 12th September 2023 until the 31st March 2024:
Golf Course
The existing 18 Hole and 9 Hole course will be replaced by a 16 Hole and 8 Hole course during the period of course works. Key points to note:
1. Temporary green in operation for 6th/15th holes
2. 7th/16th holes and 8th/17th tees will be out of play and designated as GUR in accordance with temporary course markings
3. Temporary Men’s and Ladies tees in operation on 8th/17th holes
WHS Handicaps
The 2023 active season for WHS counting competitions will close in Killiney Golf Club on Monday 11th September 2023. This decision has been taken on Health and Safety grounds as it was not considered feasible to continue playing 18 holes / 9 holes during the period of course works. Please note GI handicaps will remain active and members are reminded of their ongoing responsibility to submit "away” scores for handicap purposes in accordance with the rules of handicapping until the 31st October 2023. If you have any queries in this regard please contact your Handicap Secretary.
Competitions
It is intended that the 2023 Fixture List will continue unchanged and in the event of any unplanned changes we will update members as soon as possible. The temporary arrangements for internal golf competitions are as follows:
1. 18 hole and 9 hole competitions to be replaced by 16 hole and 8 hole competitions respectively
2. Current Men’s and Ladies scorecards will continue in operation for competition purposes
3. The current Men’s and Ladies course handicaps and indices will remain unchanged subject to the adjustment below
4. All players will be awarded "2 points” for the 7th/16th holes and should enter the appropriate score on their scorecard and the computer. For example if you have a single shot on one of these holes then please enter the score of "4” (2 points will be awarded) and if you have no shot then please enter a score of "3” (2 points will be awarded).
Club Finals Day / Matchplay Competitions
1. The current Men’s Matchplay card and Ladies scorecard and indices will remain unchanged;
2. For match-play events please treat the 7th/16th holes as a "half” and proceed to the next hole.
We appreciate your patience and support at this time as we look to proceed with planned changes to our course in advance of the 2024 season.
