Killiney’s Got Talent- in Abundance!!
It was standing room only on Saturday 18th February with the Club’s full resource of talent on display for our first big social event of 2023.
The irreplaceable Ivan ‘Cruise missile’ launched the show to howls of laughter, with his rendition of ‘Elvis the Pelvis’. After seeing what a good hair piece can do for Ivan, some members have already made an appointment with ‘Hair Restoration Blackrock’!!
Ivan was back, this time as MC, and introduced Peader Nolan, who added a touch of culture to the evening, with a marvelous take of Samuel Beckett’s ‘Stones in my Pocket’. Not to be outdone by Dad the younger Cruise, David crooned us with ‘My Way’……. Steady now girls, one at a time!!
Who can forget the hilarious Michael Hillary, with his Elvis number; ‘Blue suede Shoes’, and as for energy, OMG, what’s the prescription Michael!
Ooh La la……. With those long red gloves, and her chic red beret, Edith Piaf, or should I say Orla Fitzgerald, transported us all to Gay Paree, with a seductive hilarious version of ‘Non Rien de Rien’. Je, T’aime… Moi Non-Plus.
This was supposed to be an amateur show, but it seems nobody told Tim McStay! A professional in our midst. Simply brilliant.
Here he comes again, Michael Hillary, as ‘The fastest Milkman in the West, I knew it, I just knew it, it’s all that Calcium!
Pat O’Brien brought us to the interval as Michael D- hilarious, move over Callan’s Kicks.
Can you just believe it? That Cruise Family again, enough to make you sick that one family get all the talents!!! What a performance though, this time with proud Dad, accompanying sensational daughter Laura in a stunning rendition of ‘The Prayer’.
It just can’t be Freddie Mercury! Mark Finney had everyone on their feet with Bohemian Rhapsody, oh to be a Rock Star!
Smooth, very smooth Nollaig Fahy flew us to the Moon before we got under his skin! Very James Bond esq, and very stylish indeed.
Tina Twohig, was in fine voice with her two fabulous version of ‘Cry me a River’ and ‘Feelin Good’.
Our Chairman, the very dapper Jim Mountjoy brought the House down with ‘Living next door to Alice.’ Orla Fitzgerald, to loud applause, did an encore with ‘Make you feel my Love’.
To bring the show to a close, Willow Murray had us in stitches with his hilarious comedy sketch. As Willow mentioned afterwards, the show brought a buzz to the club, which had been absent for a while. Good riddance Covid!
Nights like KGT, don’t just happen, and the social committee wish to acknowledge the incredible work behind the scenes, from so many people. Our sincere thanks to Chef Alan, and all his team for producing such wonderful Fare. Similarly with Gerry, Jon, and their respective teams who worked tirelessly throughout the night to ensure everyone had a wonderful experience.
The night will live long in the memory, and everyone is wondering when KGT 2 is taking place. Watch this space!!

Course Work
There will be some essential maintenance on the course this week that I would like to notify you about.
Firstly, on Wednesday 8th March we will be carrying out aeration work on the greens. This will involve 15mm spikes driven deep down into the greens helping the roots to access oxygen and creating channels for water movement. This will be followed by an application of sand and finally a rolling to smooth out the surface.
Secondly, on Friday 10th March we will be sanding fairways with 300 tonnes of sand. There will be large machinery both on the course and in the carpark for most of the day. Apologies for any inconvenience caused.
Lastly, on a more positive note, the course will revert back to 18 hole summer course from Thursday 23rd March.
Michael Browne,
Course Superintendent.
Smartcard Reminder: Please keep an eye on your smartcard purse balances and ensure they are topped up in advance of using your smartcard in the Bar and Pro-shop - Thank You.
Care & Maintenance Reminder:
Please repair all plug marks, divots, rake the bunkers properly (even if they are of not your own making), carry a sandbag and please keep up with the group in front – it's your golf course!
