Unfortunately last week was not one of the finest in Killiney's Interclub season.  The weekend started with high hopes as our Senior Cup team took to the field fresh from their victory over Elm Park.  Cian, Gavin and Brandon were at home. Cillian and Oscar made the trip to Edmondstown where they ran into two very strong players on form.  Gavin and Brandon managed to get very creditable half's but unfortunately Cian in a close run match was beaten on the 17th leaving Edmondstown as 4-1 victors overall.  However with the average age of this team below 20 the future certainly looks bright at this level. We will follow Edmondstown's progress with interest.

Next up bright and early on Sunday morning was our Pierce Purcell team.  Representing us in Foxrock was Matthew Bardon/James Neville, David Mountjoy/John Green and Kevin Reynolds/Dave Allen.  At home in Killiney Paddy Allen/David Enraght-Moony and Darren Jordan/Simon Strecker.  Paddy and David got the ball rolling with a comfortable early victory in Killiney.  Unfortunately Matthew and James went down to a similar early defeat in Foxrock.  Bloom Cup hero David Mountjoy and wily campaigner John Green eked out a victory in Foxrock but further back Kevin and Dave were 1 down playing 17 . Fortune doesn't always favour the brave and we lost 17 to leave the score at 3-2 to Foxrock.  We wish our neighbour's all the best in round 2.

Surely we had saved the Best to last. Drawn against the holders Malahide it was never going to be easy.  Gilly McCool/Brendan McAndrew teed off first late on Sunday afternoon (No double Angelus for this team).  They were followed out on the course by Arthur Doran/Christy Upton and Brendan Conway/Barry Timlin.  Malahide soon started showing the strength that won them the competition last year and snatched two comfortable victories in Killiney. Gilly and Brendan hung on however and won a great match on 18.  Over in Malahide things were looking promising.  David Lane and Louis Lavelle won their match 4 up to leave things all square at 2-2.  News started filtering through that Killiney pair Kieran and Ken were 1 up playing 17. We dared to dream. However the Gods were not smiling on Killiney once again and we found a bit of trouble on 17 and 18  and the match slipped away.  Best of luck to Malahide in the next round.

This weekend sees the Irish Mixed Foursomes team take on Old Conna on Friday at 4.30pm.  The Fred Daly (Junior Boys) take on Woodbrook at 2pm on Sunday and finally the Fred Perry (Over 55's) take on Old Conna on Sunday at 2.30pm.
ALL SUPPORT VERY WELCOME.

Regards,
Captain Brendan
