Winter League
The Winter League produced some excellent scores and the usual gripping
Final round produced the eventual Winners. We had a great attendance at prize giving on 24th March. My sincere thanks to Gary Ryan of Energia for his generous sponsorship over the 8 Rounds. We wish Energia every success with its recently announced sponsorship of Energia Park in Donnybrook.
Captains’ Drive In
Keara and I were delighted that all went so well for our Drive-In on 25th February and the date we chose back in October proved to be sunny, preceding the blanket of snow that covered the course the following Sunday. Our morning 9 Hole competition was kindly sponsored by Lansdowne Place and many thanks to their Head of Marketing and our Hon Sec. Roisin McCarron for her generous sponsorship of magnificent hamper prizes. Thank you all for your wonderful support for Keara and myself on this very special annual Club Day.
Junior Captains
I would like to take this opportunity to wish Tom Wallace (Junior Boys Captain) and Tessa May (Junior Girls Captain) every success in their year of Office and we look forward to their Drive-In on Sunday, 22nd April. I welcome all support.
Weather
Some records were broken this year, the down side was 36.5mm of rain fell over one day alone, a month’s rain in less than 24 hours, the upside is both our reservoir and pond are fully stocked, so all we are waiting for now is the sunny weather! Statistically we had 250mm of rain fall in the first 3 months of 2018 - this is almost 50% of our average annual rain fall for our golf course! Due to the exceptional weather conditions the growth on the course is currently four weeks behind compared to last year.
Team News
Our Irish Mixed Foursomes Team had a great win on Sunday 25th March over Grange Golf Club, who has had a record of previous successes in this Competition. I wish the Team and their Managers Larry Sherin and Emer Kirwan the very best of luck in the next round against the Castle.
On the same weekend our Junior Team under the management of Keith Bardon and assisted by Joe Cullinane secured a great win against Stackstown winning all five matches, home and away.
Unfortunately, our All Ireland Fourball Team managed by Ronan King and Brendan Conway were beaten by Slade Valley. Their newly formed What’s App Group will be silenced for another year! Well done to all the team, who played their best and managers Ronan and Brendan, unfortunately it wasn’t Killiney’s day.
The Fitzgibbon Cup kindly managed by George O Connell and Paul Kirwan despite valiant efforts succumbed to the stronger teams in this competition.
The Super Seniors were unfortunately beaten by Charlesland recently but their managers Paddy McMahon, Paul Quinn and Dave Little say they have dusted themselves off and are ready to take on their next opponents.
I wish the Barton Cup team and their manager George O’Connell the best of luck in their match against Powerscourt on Sunday 8th April.
I would like to thank everyone that volunteers to represent the Club on the abovementioned teams and all the other Teams. I take this opportunity to wish them and their managers every success in their matches over the months ahead.
Coming Up
Qualifying for our Radisson Week (13th to 18th May) will take place on Sunday, 15th April and for those that are representing the Club elsewhere that day, player, manager or caddy, additional tee times for qualifying have been arranged for the evening of Wednesday 11thApril. Both Qualifying timesheets are now live. I hear that Radisson Week is as popular as ever and that entries from other clubs are flying in. Bar food is available every evening that week so please come up and support the competition and add to the lively atmosphere. Don’t forget the Gala Dinner with Entertainment is the crescendo to a wonderful Killiney week of golf on Friday, 18th May. This is always a great evening to entertain guests with fine dining and dancing.
Tuesday Four ball
The first of the Super Tuesday Invitation Competitions is on 24th April and these are held on the last Tuesday of every month throughout the summer.
Plummers
The Plummers, each Monday evening is up and running again, captained this year by Brendan Conway. This is a great way to introduce yourself to other members with handicaps of 17.5 and over, for nine holes, with a one course meal and prizes after. Don’t forget the Plummers’ Away Trip to Spain is taking place in October.
Mixed Events
The first of the Nine & Dine events is arranged for Friday, 13th April so I look forward to see as many playing as possible, as these are extremely popular events.
Social Events
I look forward to seeing you all at The Chef’s Seafood Extravaganza on Saturday, 21st April. It’s a long time since we hosted this event and thanks to the Social Committee for adding this great event to our calendar.
