  1. WhatsApp is ideal for the timely dissemination of club information and we trust members will benefit from its use – in a responsible manner. These Guidelines have been issued to assist in this purpose.
  2. The KGC logo is only to be used on WhatsApp groups when;

    - Official KGC communications. are being distributed e.g. match news, team info. etc

    - This is set-up by a club official, officer, committee member or a person with an official responsibility in the club e.g. team manager.

  3. Unless it is essential, it is recommended that the function to distribute information only is activated i.e. admins can send out messages but participants are not able to respond.
  4. Where two-way communications are deemed essential, those joining the group should be told to read the Etiquette expected of users – please note there is a documents section on all WhatsApp groups and you can add your Etiquette Guidelines there.
  5. It is recommended that messages should not be sent after 10pm in the evening.
  6. Any group member who does not adhere to the Groups etiquette should be removed from the group.
Sample Etiquette – e.g. for participants on Killiney Mixed Golf WhatsApp Group
  • The function of this group is to match players for mixed competitions - to make the best use of the timesheet and to
  • facilitate members to participate in these events.
  • Any messages sent to the group should be time critical, short and relevant; respect the time of others.
  • When a mixed event is coming up – notification of the date/time the timesheet opens will be given; do not respond to this – it is for information only.
  • Please book your slots on the timesheet and only use the group to:

    a. ask if you are short a player
    b. ask if someone is looking for a player; e.g. the timesheet is full, and you want to play

  • If someone is looking for a player and you want to play; simply book the slot beside them online; it is not necessary to respond via the WhatsApp group – unless they have blocked the space as “guest” – in which case you can respond via WhatsApp; ideally using the “reply privately” function to the person looking for a player.
  • As for all social media; all content is to be legal, in keeping with the family-friendly ethos of KGC and respectful of all members.
