Match Report Junior Cup Killiney vs Grange Castle May 27th

Team Manager Cathryn Towlson

On a very windy day with intermittent sunshine the match was played with 2 in Killiney and 3 at Grange Castle

First to the T and a stunning drive up the 1st by the Iron Maiden (Mel Allen). Full of local knowledge on the wind as had played her medal in the same conditions the previous day . A super round of golf had Mel on the turn at 3 up – a slight miss on 11 but then Mel produced a series of pars on 12 ,13 and 14 to win her match and leave the opponent stunned.

No 2 was our Rookie (Anne Marie) sent a bullet drive up the first and produced steady golf. Kathryn Harbison was a super caddy guiding the Rookie thru her first Club match . A series of halved holes all the way thru 7 as her opponent got some lucky bounces. The rookie upped the tempo and did the turn 2 up.  A nice win had the match closed on the 17th 3 up.

Meanwhile drama was unfolding at Grange Castle where Emir Bruton was managing with Vice Capt. Darina by her side (thanks for updating the club net ap to keep us up to date D)

First up was Anika (Roisin McCarron) A hard start in windy conditions had our Anika 2 down but with Emer K by her side she swung the match to 1 up at the turn. On caddy’s advice she took a big drink of water from a bottle she had picked up in her kitchen on her way out to play (easily known a few youngsters in her house). Alas it was a surprise neat vodka and our Anika had a good glug or two!Wonderful golf ensued and our Vodka Babe produced a stunning victory 4 up on the 16th.

No 2 was The RA  ~(Ruth Anne ) our rising young star ! She was out of the blocks like a tornado quickly taking a commanding lead with a lot of good instruction from caddy Miriam who seemed to be able to read every green to perfection!  A super finish on the 15th 5 up.

No 3 was Julie with Mieke on the bag. A good match but unlucky for Julie she met the “Savage” and it was not an easy match.

A fantastic win for our Junior Cup girls. A bit of a celebration in Killiney where all regaled any one who would or could listen to the stories of the day under the watchful eye of Captain George!

Well done and thanks to all the caddies and supporters.
