On 26 January 2019 Whyte’s held one of the largest auctions of picture postcards ever held in Ireland. Over 100,000 cards were offered. The collection was formed by Dubliner, Seamus Kearns (1929-2014). He was the founder of the Irish Picture Postcard Society. The collection encompassed Irish topographical views, historic events, advertising, comic and greetings, Gruss Aus, Art Nouveau and Art Deco. Estimates for individual lots ran from €50 to €3,000. Every single lot sold, for a total of €130,000, a world record for a single owner collection of picture postcards.
Harry Slowey, one of our members, purchased a lot covering the Killiney and Dalkey area. In it he found one postcard of Killiney Golf Club.
Harry and his wife Sharon kindly donated the postcard to Killiney Golf Club.
