Fellow golfers,
At this stage of the season we should have had The Challenge Cup, The Scratch Cup and The Presidents Prize behind us, we should be halfway through the matchplay tournaments and looking forward to Super Tuesdays and Invitation week. Unfortunately, however we are not. Your committee has been zooming on a regular basis and have all agreed we would like to play as many of the traditional internal competitions as possible. We also hope to return to our regular Saturday/Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday competitions when it is possible and sensible to do so. With that in mind we have laid out below the current targets for the various events below. Please take the time to read.
Mens Saturday Competitions
We expect to start men’s Saturday Competitions on Saturday 4th July. Until the GUI allows us to run 4 balls at 10-minute intervals, competitions will most likely run as 9-hole events. If the demand is not as anticipated we may be able to revert to a mixture of 9 and 18 holes, however realistically the first expected Saturday Mens 18 Hole competition is likely to be 25th July. If it is the case the GUI rolls back the 10-minute intervals to the 29th June, we will move accordingly.
In line with the GUI guidelines when we resume competitions, we will be running with mobile electronic score entry. We will be running a test on Saturday 27th June. A separate mail with detailed instructions will issue prior to the 27th. In advance please download the Clubnet App.
Saturday Sponsors
We would like to say a special thank you to all our members who so kindly offered to sponsor different events this year. Many of you will be off the hook for 2020. We hope to run close to the published diary from 1st July. However, as some events will be brought forward for example the Presidents Prize some of the sponsors from July on will also be affected. We will be in touch with each of you individually on this front.
Club Finals Day
We are planning on holding a Club finals day on Sunday the 20th of September. We will be endeavouring to hold as many finals as possible this day. If some superstars qualify for more than one event, if necessary, we will likely hold some on Friday 18th September.
Silver and Gold Medals
We will have three strokes events whereby Silver Medals will be awarded. The President's Prize (25th July), The O’Connell’s Prize (15th August) and the Captains Prize (5th September). The first two winners will get automatic entry to the Captains Prize. The three round winners will then play off on Club finals day for the Gold Medal.
Presidents Prize (Silver Medal Event)
Strokes Competition on Saturday 25th July. First round of the Scratch Cup. Winner to get Automatic Qualification to Captains Prize.

Golfer of the Year
For the 9 Hole event all Men's singles from the 4th July through to 19th Sept except for the Captains Prize and Captains Qualifying Day will be included.
For the 18 Hole event it is expected all Men's singles from 25th July through to 19th Sept will be included.
The number of counting scores will be announced before the 4th of July but is expected to be 5 or 6 in each category.
Seniors/Plummers
We will look to bring these competitions back as soon as is feasible. These will depend on timesheet structure as we enter phase 3. Hopefully, we will be able to update by July 1.
Tuesday Invitation
We will be in discussions over the next few weeks with the Chef and Secretary Manager. The availability of the dining room/ bar will drive the re-introduction of this long-standing event.
Father/Son
This event will most likely move to Sunday 4th October.
Interclub Matches
Most Non-GUI interclub tournaments have already been cancelled. The GUI have curtailed the number of competitions it will be running (Five in total) Senior Cup, Junior Cup, Jimmy Bruen, Pierce Purcell, and Barton Cup. We have decided that Killiney will only enter two Mens events this year. All qualifying events in neutral venues are cancelled and all tournaments will be run on a home/away basis. This will put extra demands on our timesheets which we expect to be very busy over the summer. Consequently, the two we are going to run with are the Jimmy Bruen (Lower Hcp limit 5 and minimum combined 15) and the Pierce Purcell (Lower Hcp limit 11 and minimum combined 25). Team managers will be putting panels together in the coming weeks and we would appreciate if you could give them all your support.
Stay safe and enjoy your golf.
